James Cameron's Avatar pikes the eyes of many

It has been nearly a decade since James Cameron's directed the reigning No.1 box-office grossing Titanic, and was awarded with 11 Oscar awards. Now he has returned, into the 21st where after a preview as of Thursday globally released, the audience waits on baited breath as awaiting his triumphant masterpiece.

Avatar and James Cameron... a recipe for a movie unlike non other in the minds of all movie buffs like myself. Turning the table into an entirely different setting, in contrast to the 1900's Titanic... AVATAR will send humanity into an alien world, a place where technological demand is so great, no other movie matches the graphical weight and imaginative creations ever since the release of the nostalgic world of Star Trek 2009 and the titanic constructs of the Transformers. But one question remains... Will it be good?

It has been a year filled with an abundance new and sequel titles. In the face of all odds, with big novel titles such as Harry Potter, the mutilated Brem Stokker's iconic vampire species turned sparkly aka Twilight:New Moon and anticipated movies such as the apocalyptic movie 2012.

Will the wonderful world James Cameron envisions and the acting of Sam Worthington playing the role of a soldier participating in the Avatar program, be strong enough to pull the audience from reality and into colorful world of the planet called Pandora and its tale of grand epic proportions.

The teaser trailer alone, has caught the worlds attention of what I can gather more than 5 millions views, released on different websites. With movie buffs around the world including myself await this epic masterpiece, here is the trailer everyone's been watching.

Film Review-District 9

It is a tale eternally retold, be it religion or of evolutionary science. The voracious species known as humans fear, that they do not understand. Humanity... biologically stands at the evolutionary summit as well as the food chain. Yet true wise men have realized, that deep within the very genetic strand of DNA, there is a never ending underlying thirst for hunger, that is primal in aspect.

As all wisemen know, unlike an animal they satiate their fill, but humans... once they have something before them with an object beyond their comprehension, they will consume and cease to follow the path in which humanity will reach their evolutionary zenith. What was once human, will revert back to a primal savage of greed, ignorance, and insanity.

This movie heavily relies on the theme of racism, and it questions to all audiences to what is the definition of humanity when one starts to discriminate amongst themselves. It tells a tale, that one does not have to be human to 'be' human. In fact what are humans anyways? what is their purpose?

One mainstream feature about the movie, is that there are no A list actors used in the making of this film, so the cast is entirely original and the audience can be immersed without the zeal of familiar actors being used.

In all the extra terrestial involved movies such as Judgement Day, where the aliens always appear in the classically innumerouly victimized city of New York, the symbolic capital of the US in Washington, or the mysterious pyramids of Africa. Instead it took on an entirely new approach. Instead surprisingly, it the movies settings takes me into a city in Africa, to a no-mans land called Johannesburg where an alien craft, for a lack of better word got stuck after something in their ship settled above Johannesburg.

Located in the District number 9 of the city, humans labeled the alien beings as 'Prawns' due to a facial resemblance of the crustacian delicacy. At first there was communication, but it soon began to turn into a military occupation when human greed began to take advantage of the outnumbered prawns and their technology. Local gangs who believed in mytiscism and voodoo illegaly trade with the prawn, yet are also hunting and cannibalising them. Though the Prawn's physique and tech are vastly superior to humans, they are normally passive and civilized sentient beings who only wishes to return home to their world.

The movie shows the ugliness of humanity to a degree that is fathomable by using the fictional aliens as a means to express them, using it as a medium without the difficulty of using other humans to root out these ugliness.

CGI is unquestionably top-notched, as the Prawns let out a strong sense of realism both emotionally, and physically, and human interaction can greatly convince the audience that the Prawns have life.

District 9... bottom line, is a movie well worth my money, though the only flaw will be the enigmatic science to the alien technology, it does not distract the audience from enjoying this heart-wrenching movie of father who wishes to create a future for his son, and a man who was thrusted into their world, and feeling their pain, reaching enlightment, become a heroic protagonist.

So as Tech Jammer decrees, I rate this movie

Verdict- A-

Final notes
  • The making was this film, was inspired by Halo when it was scrapped
  • The feel and atmoshpere of the movie, will make gamers feel akin a similarity with the game Red Faction: Guerrilla. The feel will also be increased, as viewers will see weapons and vehicles that show a strong resemblance with the Walkers.

My Review-The Proposal

As an anonymous tip described the movie quoted "Another typical Sandra Bullock film". The jury verdicts...

"AGREED!"

Thats what I thought it would be. The things in this movie I had just realized, that I thought weddings were all about the bells and whistles of two people who love each other, are now married and now will live happily ever after ...Bla bla bla etc etc.

But this one opened my eyes as to how I see that marriages arn't as easy as I thought would be. I never knew that it would require an immigration department for people who are from different countries to stay together.

Sandra Bullock playing the role of an editor in a publishing office named Margaret Tate is a typical bossy stuck up (bleep) that everyone is too scared to get in her way. While Ryan Reynolds, plays the typical lapdog as her assistant editor at her beck and call in hopes that his boss, Margaret. Would have the heart to publish his manuscript so that the world may know of his illustriously crafted words of storytelling. Sort of like the professional relationship between the leading roles of Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep in the 2006 novel-based movie the 'The Devil Wears Prada'. Except that Anne is replaced by the guy who played Marvel's unstoppable mouth horn Deadpool soon to have his own movie origins, while Streep is replaced with a high-heel wearing hottie.

Scenes provided by the trailer shows promise of a hilarity basis from scenes where the so called Witch gets thrown off a boat, to the hilarity ensuing image of switching roles as to the title a 'proposal'. Commercially its funny, as it is supposedly the male that is forward to a relationship, while its odd as a female takes the lead.

But the comedy does not make up for the story though... If I were to seperate funny from the story, it would mean entirely different as a whole. The story that can be closly described as average at best. Typical bossy person with an underling, and their misadventures supposedly give way to a climatic tale.

The Proposal met my expectations when it comes to the funny. But as a story, it has become exhausted, and does a stereotypicaly cliched happily ever after that lacks concrete substance and suspense.

As Tech Jammer decrees

Verdict-C

Pros-Funny as promised

Cons-Another fleeting romance flick with a cliche climax

My Review - BLAZEBLUE

Being a fan of the Guilty Gear franchise, Arc system works has done an amazing job of creating a vast world where the term "bigger isnt always better" fits the shoe so nicely.

The game is in all terms an evoltuion of the franchise. stepping up to the ring in the face of a great many other fighting games, is the new stand alone game Blazblue. For years Arc System works made a name for themselves by creating the succesfull franchise that blends 2D image with 3D graphics.

Ftanding up to the plate, is probably the evolution of the franchise. Meet Blazblue...

This new franchise may not have as much appeal as the mainstream games like Streetfighter and Tekken. In all honesty, I never considered of buying it due to the stereotypical reason that it was unheard to me. But after playing it with a sandwich in my hand, I find myself deeply immersed into the game

Gaming mechanics are topnotched and are easy to pull off, Guilty Gear and other figthing game veterans will be able to feel the simple control design and combat the game with comfort and pacing. The moves are well polished to the point where even a begginer can instantly enjoy the game and get into the fight without worrying about the speed.

Of course it wouldnt be a game if it didnt have a good story. Well Blazblue, does not dissapoint. This well crafted game offers a multitude of storylines for every individual character that keeps the story fresh and enigmatic. Whether its in arcade mode or story, the fates off every character differs and leads to different outcomes, their journeys are expansive, and the story just keeps interesting.

The casting are filled to the brim with personality I could expect no less from Arc System Works. The casting shows a menagerie of individuals, that gives off a nostalgic origin for many who are familiar with the Guilty Gear characters. Fans of the Guilty Gear franchise will guarantee to love the characters of Blazblue as evolved counterparts of Guilty Gear

The track music and audio can only be described as awesome and easy on the ears. From the sloshing and slishing of a blob like insectoid creature, the biffing of punching and kicking, to the rocket like power pummeling bomber of the gigantic grappler.

So as Tech Jammer decrees,

Verdict-A

Pros-Beatiful artistic blend of 2 dimensional imaging blended with 3D artwork. Engaging storyline and character personality, power balance both flashy and quick adaptibility, Easy to use control system.

Cons-Not as well known as other mainstream games

Intro to Blazblue in honor of Arc System Works and all who put their efforts into this successful project.
